SKYROCKETING GRAPHITE ELECTRODE PRICES
OCT 2017 | Vol. VI | Issue #4
Graphite Electrode Tandem
The little known graphite electrode has made its presence felt with the meteoric rise of price in the past few months and reasons behind recent rally in graphite electrode has been on the back of news that there has been a clamp-down in the graphite electrode manufacturing capacity in China on account of stringent pollution norms and it has been a tailwind for the graphite electrode manufacturers and research has shown that 89 percent incremental increase in demand for graphite electrode is possible due to developments in China.
With improved steel industry dynamics and graphite electrodes prices and supply constraint of needle coke has also contributed to the surge and which also led to the price rise of needle coke which an important raw material for the production of graphite electrodes.
Steel360 in the cover story tries to understand the graphite electrode industry and how it will impact steel production, what are the different factors governing graphite electrode, will it leave a trail of problems in the coming time, are the questions which is been answered through analysis and industry comments. A real package to read on page 31.
