Odisha government has issued closure notices to 26 mines waiting for second and subsequent renewal following the Supreme Court’s order on 16 May, 2014.

According to government sources the letters has been issued on Saturday by Joda minning circle and Koida Mining Circle. The Deputy Director of Mines of Joda circle in his letter number 4519 dated 17 May, 2014 has issued notices to 13 mines to stop mining immediately. Similar letters has been issued by the DDM, Koida circle to 13 mines.

The Supreme Court on Friday had ordered temporary closure of Iron ore mines in Odisha working under deemed renewal. The mining industry believes the closure of mines would have heavy impact on the Iron ore production in the country. As per a preliminary calculation, the closure of 26 mines could mean up to 30 MnT of annual output of the market.

  • AMTC : Narayanpasi & Mahulsukha Iron ore mines
  • Bonai industrial Co : Nadidihi & Teherai Iron ore and Manganese mines
  • Feegrade & Co : Rengalibeda Nadikasira Iron ore mines
  • OMM : Patamunda, Bhanjakusuma & Orahuri Iron ore mines (all Manganese mines)
  • OMC : Kurmitar pahar Iron ore mines
