Steel 360 assessed the performance results of Steel companies in India and listed the top 5 steel producers. Together they contribute about 45.5% of total Steel production in India.
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) leads the top 5 Steel producing companies of India list for the year 2013. The company has produced about 12.8 MnT saleable Steel in the year and its total sales were about 11.7 MnT. SAIL had produced about 13.5 MnT in 2012 and was in the 24th position amongst the top 50 Steel producers in the world.
JSW stood 2nd in the list with an overall production of 11.1 MnT in the year 2013. The company achieved the sales of about 9.1 MnT Flat Steel and about 1.8 MnT of Steel Longs. JSW had produced about 8.5 MnT Steel in the year 2012. It was positioned 33rd in the top 50 Steel producing companies by the World Steel Association.
Tata Steel India was in the 3rd position list with an overall production of 8.8 MnT Steel in the year 2013. The company’s Flat Steel production was at 5.8 MnT and Long Steel at 3 MnT. It belongs to one of the leading Tata Group of the country whose production stands amongst the top 10 Steel producing countries of the world. Tata Steel had produced about 23 MnT Crude Steel in 2012 and was ranked 10th in the world Steel association’s list of Steel companies.
Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) and Welspun India Limited followed in the list with a production of about 3.1 MnT and 1.1 MnT respectively.
Indian Steel industry had performed quiet well in the year 2013 gaining the 4th position among the top Steel producing countries globally. India’s overall Steel production has witnessed a growth of 5.1 percent in 2013 at 81 MnT compared to 77 MnT in 2012. The developments noticed in Steel industry might just lead India closer towards world’s largest producer in the world.
